SolMates: Tandem Solar Module Project funded by the EU

SOLMATES
Shaping the Future of Solar Energy
SolMates is an EU-funded research project pushing the boundaries of photovoltaic innovation. By combining cutting-edge materials in flexible tandem solar modules, we strive to make solar energy more efficient, adaptable, and widely accessible.
Together with our valued partners, we are creating sustainable, high-performance solar solutions that seamlessly integrate into everyday life, from architecture to mobility and beyond. Learn more about the technologies driving the next generation of solar energy and stay up to date with our progress and relevant publications.
Outstanding efficiency
Our goal: over 30 % cell efficiency and more than 25 % module efficiency
on flexible substrates of 100 cm²
Extended durability
We target less than 5 % power loss after 2,000 hours of operation at maximum power point (MPP)
Exceptional flexibility
We develop tailor-made modules with flexible substrates, custom shapes, and adaptable cell interconnections.
Cost-effective production
Our aim is to achieve overall production costs below 0.3 €/kWp including encapsulation
Environmentally conscious
We design tandem solar cells with a low carbon footprint of less than 10 gCO₂-eq/kWh
Discover the core ideas behind our approach, from flexible design and lightweight materials
to seamless solar integration across diverse surfaces.
Curious about the technology? Explore how advanced materials and tandem architectures come together
to enable high-performance, EU-based photovoltaic innovation.
